MeeMaw

Hi All!
It has been a while since I saw everyone and I do miss you. I enjoy having a house and family again. My new family is taking very good care of me. I am well fed and go on lots of walks. I take Omega3 vitamins every day. Dad bathes me with special shampoo, blow dries my coat, and brushes me down. Hopefully, this will help my skin rash. In any case, I love all the attention.
For the first six days with my new family Dad took me driving everywhere so I would feel comfortable in the car. I got to sit in the front seat right next to him.
We then set off on a trip to our summer home in the Catskill mountains. It took us three days in the car.
Finally we arrived. It looked good, had wonderful smells, lots of shade and nice cool evenings for sleeping, one of my favorite pastimes. Then I discovered that the bedroom is on the second floor. I have arthritis. I thought my people were crazy. You think I am able to climb stairs???
Dad tried to strengthen me by taking me for mile long walks every day. I swear they were uphill both ways. There is a river nearby and I went in once, but only up to my knees. It was a bit chilly for a southern dog. Mom has been working with a builder to add a new bedroom to the first floor. It probably will not be completed this year.
I have made progress with the cat, Miss Charlotte. She must be important since she is the only one who has a room to herself. There are also two cats outside who are friendly and hang out on the deck with me. It is always good to make new friends.
Finally Dad got the new dock in and the boat repaired, so as promised he took me for a boat ride. It was a little scary at first, but once I got my sea legs and Dad gave it the gas, I was right up front with the wind blowing in my face. Mom kept hold of me but she didn’t really have to, I just played along to keep her happy. After we docked Dad and I went swimming. Mom said if I’m going to do that I had to have a life jacket. ROAD TRIP TO THE MALL!!!
Early in July Mom and Dad took me into town for a surprise. It turns out everyone was in town just to welcome me. They had bands and marching units and floats, just like the Shrimp parade. They even had a banner that said Welcome MeeMaw. Then that night they set off fireworks. They sure were pretty, and did not frighten me because I am totally deaf. Saugerties, New York really is a friendly town!
Dad had planned to go mountain climbing but had to cancel because of the heat and the rain. He said he didn’t want to tire me out, but I think he’s the one who is getting too old for it. Hope all is well at the shelter. Tell Dee I miss my chicken!
Love,
MeeMaw
